Congratulations to Frances Smith Foster for the publication of Still Brave: Evolution of Black Women's Studies (co-edited with Stanlie James and Beverly Guy-Sheftall). In addition, her monograph 'Til Death or Distance Do Us Part: Love and Marriage in African America will appear next month. As if that weren’t enough, she will receive the Association of Departments of English Francis Andrew March Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession of English, and there will be a session at this year’s Modern Language Association conference dedicated to her work. |

We are pleased to announce that Irene Browne and Mary Odem have received a $30,000 grant from the Emory Institute for Developing Nations to support their research on "Migration, Remittances and Development: The Impact of Gender, Race/Ethnicity and Class." Professors Browne and Odem are conducting this research in conjunction with the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW).
